Howlwadaag district explosion linked to Al-Shabaab amid security camera mandate

Wednesday November 29, 2023

Mogadishu (HOL) - An explosion rocked an auto parts business in Howlwadaag district's Black Sea neighbourhood on Tuesday night. The blast is suspected to be the work of the Al-Shabaab, following their threats against companies who have installed security cameras.

Authorities believe the explosion is a direct response to the National Intelligence and Security Agency's (NISA) directive for commercial centers on Black Sea road to install surveillance cameras. Al-Shabaab had issued threats against compliance with this government order, leading to the closure of several businesses.

A spokesperson for Al-Shabaab has stated their intent to target businesses adhering to the government's security measures. The installed cameras are intended to provide critical surveillance in key areas, aiding the government in gathering vital information and evidence.

In light of these events, businesses in the area are being advised to enhance their security protocols. The situation has prompted a heightened alert from authorities as they continue to assess and respond to the ongoing security challenges.
