Three al Shabab fighters surrender to government forces in Bakool region

    Hudur (HOL) - Three young men belonging to al-Shabab surrendered to the security and intelligence agents in the Hudur district of the Bakool region on Wednesday.

    Abdullahi Moalim Ibrahim, one of the defectors, told the media that he wanted to get a formal education before being seduced to join al-Shabab.

    Ibrahim also confessed to taking part in battles as an al-Shabaab militant, particularly in the Aato district of the Bakool region.

    He described how difficult it was for young men like him to escape from al-Shabaab and asked for forgiveness.

    Ali Hussein Hassan, the deputy governor of Bakool, welcomed anyone who defected from al-Shabab and promised that those who surrendered peacefully would face no harm.

    According to Ali Hussein Hassan, the government will assist anyone who defected from al-Shabaab with employment and education. He believes those who remain in Al-Shabaab have a good chance.
