Kismayo (HOL) - US-trained Somali Special Forces, supported by local militia forces, thwarted an al-Shabaab attack as they killed a militant attempting to plant a landmine on the road between Janay-Abdalla and Buulo-gaduud in the Lower Jubba region on Friday.
Speaking about the incident, an army officer commended the commandos and local forces for their unwavering determination to protect the people from terrorism. He vowed that their mission to prevent and eliminate any threat posed by Al-Shabaab would persist.
In a separate operation on Thursday afternoon, Danab forces captured another militant in the area.
Security officials urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities that could endanger their safety to government security agencies.
As the Somali government forces, supported by international partners, intensify their efforts against al-Shabaab, it is anticipated that the second phase of anti-al-Shabaab operations will commence in the coming weeks.
