Mogadishu (HOL) - Al Shabaab militants burnt civilian houses in several small villages near Bahdo district in the Galgadud region on Monday night.
According to residents, the militants set fire to the small villages of Biyo Deys and Meegag Duub, located approximately 20 kilometres from Bahdo district.
They added that the villagers have begun mobilizing and arming themselves to fight against the militants who have burned down their homes.
On Wednesday, al Shabaab fighters destroyed a drinking well and two telecommunications towers in a night attack in Adakibir area. On Monday, residents of Adakibir armed with heavy weapons told local media that they were prepared to fight al Shabaab.
Destroying wells and other vital civilian infrastructure has been a feature of Al Shabaab rule in rural areas, particularly as the group retreats further into the hinterlands during offensives.
