Finance Minister cautions about Somalia's finances

    Mogadishu (HOL) - Somali Minister of Finance, Abdirahman Ducale Beyle, denied reports that the federal government's bank is full of large sums of money left by the former government of Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo.

    He added that his earlier statement about the former government's left in the bank salaries for the next six months had been misinterpreted.

    "I did not tell you that the treasury is full, it is not full, and whoever says it is irresponsible," he said.

    Minister Bayle warned against politicizing the country's finances, claiming that the ministry worked monthly to ensure government salaries were not disturbed.

    He promised that the Ministry of Finance would pay salaries this month but that in the coming months, workers would have to work ahead of the government to avoid salary cuts.
