BELEDWEYNE (HOL) - Hirshabelle state president Ali Abdullahi Gudlawe has directed the police to probe the murder of Abdi Hussein Olow, a well traditional elder in Beledweyne town of Somalia’s central region, Hiiraan.
In a statement, Gudlawe has instructed the security agencies in Beledweyne district to immediately arrest the perpetrators of the killing.
“The President of Hirshabelle State of Somalia, Ali Gudlawe Hussein, has sent his condolences to the family and friends of Abdi Hussein Olow, one of Hirshabelle’s most prominent peace activists, who was killed by a terrorist group in Beledweyne tonight,” a statement by Hirshabelle state reads in part.
It added, “he was a well-known philanthropist who cared for the poor and contributed to the peace and unity of the people of the Hiiraan region.”
According to witnesses, the assailants armed with pistols fled the area before the security forces reached the scene.
No group has yet claimed the responsibility for the attack.
The funeral service of the victim which took place this morning in Beledweyne town was attended by hundreds of people including state, federal officials, traditional elders and members of the civil society.
