Somali troops seize two villages in Lower Shabelle region

    Mogadishu (HOL) - Somali intelligence forces and the Haram'ad Police Special Forces fully control Jilib Merca and Gandarshe villages under Merca town in the Lower Shabelle region on Friday morning following heavy fighting against al Shabab.

    The military officials supervising the operations said that the army's planned operations resulted in many casualties, including death and injuries to the al-Shabab group.

    Intelligence forces and the Haram'ad Police have also conducted minesweeping operations in areas where the group has long held sway.

    The federal government recently announced that the national forces will begin conducting extensive operations on the road between the towns of Merca in the Lower Shabelle region and Mogadishu, Somalia's capital.

    On Monday, a coordinated operation with NISA and the Haram'ad Police Special Forces raided secret Al Shabaab encampments near  El-Marade, Garas Gawaan, Galka Salimo, and regions under Number 60 in Lower Shabelle.

    According to officials, this large-scale operation was conducted on the route connecting Mogadishu and Merca.
