Petroleum ministry orders squatters out of government offices

    Mogadishu (HOL) - Somalia's Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources has ordered the immediate evacuation of the residents of the Ministry's headquarters building located in the Saibiano neighbourhood in Mogadishu’s Hodan district.

    The Ministry said in a statement on Sunday that the building will be used for the public good for which it was intended.

    The residents have been living inside the ministry building since the collapse of Somalia’s central government in 1991. Since then, former government facilities have been overrun by civilian squatters.

    The Ministry instructed residents to remove their belongings as soon as possible but did not specify a timeframe to leave the building.
