Mogadishu (HOL) - Gunmen shot dead an official working for Puntland's Ministry of Finance in Galkacyo on Saturday night.

According to eyewitnesses, armed men attacked Abdirahman Mohamed Abdi shortly after leaving Salahuddin mosque in the neighbourhood of Garsoor in Galkayo.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, but Al Shabaab and ISIS's Somalia branch regularly target government officials.

It is the third high-profile murder in as many months in Galkayo town amid increased operations by security forces.

In June 2021, eighteen al-Shabab militants were executed in the Galkayo town after they were convicted of being members of the Islamist militant group al-Shabab.
