4th and 5th class of Somali cadets graduate Turkish military academy in Mogadishu

Mogadishu (HOL) - Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud attended a commencement ceremony for the fourth graduating class of Somali National Army officers and the fifth class of deputy officers who completed military training at the TurkSom center in Mogadishu on Sunday.

Mohamud thanked the Turkish government for its support in enhancing and rebuilding the Somali National Army.

He emphasized his government's commitment to rebuilding the National Armed Forces so it could fully take over the country's security from African Union troops.

"The creation of this military academy marked the start of the country's capabilities to train our troops inside our country. I congratulate and thank the families of these officers for supporting their children in enlisting in the Somali National Army."

Mohamud added the government is committed to liberating areas where the Al- Shabaab militants were planning attacks against the government and AU troops.

The new officers participated in a military parade display to show the strength and quality of the Somali National Army. They later took the constitutional oath to defend the country, the people, the religion and the Somali flag.

The event was attended by the Turkish ambassador to Somalia Mehmet Yilmaz, mayor of Mogadishu Omar Mohamed Mohamud, Minister of Defense Abdulqadir Mohamed Noor, Somali Chief of Defense Forces Brigadier Gen. Odawa Yusuf Raage, police commissioner Abdi Hassan Mohamed Hijar and other officers of the Armed Forces.
