Former electoral delegate shot dead in Mogadishu

    Mogadishu (HOL) - Gunmen have shot and killed Yusuf Dahir Kheyre, a well-known peace activist in Mogadishu.

    He died at Erdogan Hospital or Digfer Hospital, where he was initially treated for gunshot wounds sustained in the attack.

    Kheyre was shot several times in the upper body by gunmen in Mogadishu's Hodan district before the assailants fled the scene.

    Kheyre was a delegate in Somalia's federal parliamentary elections.

    After the assassination, security forces arrived at the scene and carried out an operation, but no arrests were made.

    It is unknown who was behind the assassination, but Al-Shabaab has threatened to kill civilians who took part in the electoral process.
