MOGADISHU (HOL) - A U.S airstrike wounded three Al-Shabaab militants in Middle Jubba Sunday, Somali government has said barely a day after a similar strike killed two militants in the same region.
A statement from the Ministry of Information noted the strike in Dujuuma in Middle Jubba also destroyed an Al-Shabaab compound.“This precision airstrike wounded three terrorists while also destroying a known al-Shabaab compound,” the statement read in part adding there was ‘At this time, no civilians are assessed to have been killed or injured in the attack.’
Two senior Al-Shabaab militants were killed Saturday and another wounded according to a statement from the Federal Government. The strike in Saacow also ‘destroyed a known Al-Shabaab compound, the statement read.
The U.S has upped strikes against Al-Shabaab in recent years with 63 conducted in 2019 as Somali army and African Union continue ground operations wresting control of various villages from Al-Shabaab in Lower Shabelle and Middle Jubba.
In the statement Sunday, the Federal Government warned it will go for all those who pay allegiance to the outlawed group adding women who provide support role to the group are themselves terrorists.
“Women who willingly join al-Shabaab or provide support for their terrorist actions, are also al-Shabaab.” It noted however there was room for those who are willing to leave the group.
