Minneapolis (HOL) - Six more people have died from COVID-19 in Minnesota, according to local health officials.
The Minnesota Department of Health reported on Sunday morning an increase of 728 new confirmed cases. The latest figure brings the total number of confirmed cases to 69,584.
Currently, there are 301 people hospitalized with 137 of them in intensive care.
Health officials say that 90% of the people who have contracted the virus have been able to recover fully. The vast majority of those who have died, 74%, had been living in long-term care facilities, and nearly all were reported to have preexisting health conditions.
As Minnesotans prepare for a new school year, the rise in cases among young people continues to worry administrators, teachers and parents. People in their 20's remain the age group with the highest number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the state.
The University of Minnesota President, Joan Gabel, proposed on Friday to hold online classes for the first two weeks at three of the University's campuses.
So far, the state has completed over 1 million tests.
