3 women caught hiding in the ceiling as police arrest 39 at a party in Eastlands

Monday April 20, 2020

39 women of Somali origin were on Sunday evening arrested at Nasra Estate, along Spine road in Nairobi’s Eastlands at a wedding celebration according to police officers.

They have since been moved into mandatory quarantine at KMTC at their own cost.

Police officers say they were tipped off by members of the public that the women had congregated at the wedding party early Sunday morning.

The party was still in full throttle by the time police officers stormed the estate on Sunday evening.

Three women attempted to escape the police swoop by climbing into the ceiling but were cornered and arrested.

The latest comes with the government reiterating on the need for Kenyans to practice social distancing.
The past weekend alone, over 147 people were arrested across Nairobi at bars and social joints in disregard of the directives from the Ministry of health.

Health Chief Administrative Secretary Dr. Mercy Mwangangi on Sunday announced that the government had introduced a new measure to ensure compliance with the curfew hours in the fight against Covid-19.

In now steeper measures to avert the spread of the virus, the government has warned that anyone found outside during curfew hours will be taken into mandatory quarantine.

Additionally, the government will be using technology to monitor Kenyans who will be congregating past curfew hours.

Kenya has so far recorded 270 positive cases of the new coronavirus.

14 people have also succumbed to the coronavirus since the outbreak was first reported in Kenya.
