MOGADISHU (HOL) - A military court in Mogadishu Wednesday sentenced to death Mahas district commissioner for the murder of his deputy in April in Hiiraan region.
Sheikh Elmi Awale, the district commissioner of Mahas district in Hiiraan region was handed a life sentence after the court established, he colluded with Al-Shabaab hirelings to kill Rashid Osman Abdi in a car bomb.
The deceased’s vehicle hit a landmine in April killing him. Two other occupants in the vehicle were injured. The court established that Awale worked with two Al-Shabaab militants to kill the district official. The reasons for the murder remained unknown.
In delivering its verdict Wednesday, the court sentenced Al-Shabaab members Ali Ahmed Gure and Noor Ibrahim to death for their role in the plot against Abdi. According to the prosecution, Ibrahim procured and delivered the explosive devices which were used for the attack.
