MOGADISHU (HOL) - An explosive device suspected to have been planted in the residence of a local official in Jowhar went of Sunday killing the official and injuring several others.
newsimsideMultiple source in the Middle Shabelle town said the deputy governor Mohamed Abdi Sugaal who was in the house at the time of the attack died while other occupants sustained injuries.
There were conflicting reports but senior police officials in the areas said the improvised explosive device may have been planted earlier in the residence of Sugaal.
The attack comes barely a month after a finance official in the Middle Shabelle regional administration Abdullahi Shitawe was killed in after the vehicle he was travelling in hit an IED in Bal’ad-Jowhar road.
The militant group Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack.
