Malaysia: Somalia president, PM, congratulate Dr M on swearing in as 7th PM

The president and prime minister of Somalia have congratulated Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad for being sworn in as Malaysia's seventh prime minister.

In separate letters to Dr Mahathir, President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed and Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire, said they believed relations between the two countries will continue to flourish under the new Pakatan Harapan government.

"I am confident that under your leadership, our two countries can find ways to further strengthen the bilateral relationship," Mohamed said, according to a statement issued by the Somalian Embassy in Malaysia.

Meanwhile, Hassan said, "On my part, I assure you of my commitment and that of the Federal Government of Somalia to work with you and together with the Government of Malaysia along the lines of brotherliness, cooperation and mutual respect."

Somalia and Malaysia established diplomatic relations on Dec 17, 1960.
