Mogadishu (HOL) - Fifteen Somali officers are undergoing 14-day basic training course on forensic fingerprint to empower the law-enforcing agency to use the technology to investigate criminal cases.
The workshop which is being conducted by AMISOM is taking place in the administrative capital of Southwest, Baidoa.
The trainees who will be taken through important topics ranging from fingerprints taking and storage and making references in criminal cases among others, are drown from the South West State’s Criminal Investigations Department (CID).
Assistant Minister of Security in the South West State, Abdirizak Abdi Aden, lauded AMISOM for organizing the specialized course, adding that it will go a long war in improving security in the region.
“The police force has different sectors; this [CID] is the most important one. As to why we put more efforts on this sector, it is the area that separates the criminals and non-criminals and they [CID officers] are the people to differentiate. I hope they will benefit from the training and serve their community,” added the Assistant Minister for Security.
Shukri Muhumed Wardheere, a female officer participating in the training, welcomed the training, adding that it will improve their knowledge on investigation of crimes.
“Today, we are participating in a seminar on forensic fingerprints. I hope this workshop will improve our skills and we will be useful to the people,” Shukri observed.
Fingerprint evidence is a modern analytical feature that plays a crucial role in criminal investigations and is used to quickly identify suspects.
