MOGADISHU (HOL) - The National Disability Agency bill that seeks to serve people with disability in equality has been assented by President Mohamed Abdulahi Farmajo. The bill was approved by the country's bicameral parliament.
Speaking during the signing of the bill into law, President Farmajo commended the approval of the bill saying it was a milestone as far as matters on people living with disabilities are concern.
"I thank the Federal Parliament of Somalia that did this task within six months, I urge them to approve other legal documents as soon as possible”, President Farmajo said.
The session also saw the president challenge lawmakers to approve 29 bills that are still under discussion.
Speaking after President Farmajo signed the bill, the Minister for Women and Human Rights Development, Deqa Yasin Haji said that it will properly serve those living with disabilities.
"This is a great achievement and as a country we have taken a great step that will see those with diaabilities feel appreciated," she said.
In attendance were the Somali State Minister of the Presidency, Abdukadir Sheikh Ali, Commissioners from both Houses and members of various disability organizations.
