Somalia trounces Uganda in U-17 to earn a spot in the finals

Nairobi (HOL) - Somalia's fast-pace and generous ball movement have earned them a spot in the CECAFA U-17 Finals after edging out Uganda in the semi-finals.

Somalia's lone goal from Ahmed Farhaman early in the first half was enough to defeat Uganda 1-0 at the Gitega Stadium on Wednesday.

Uganda are the  U-17 champions when they hoisted the trophy in 2009.

Peter Onen, Uganda's manager, said that he was disappointed that his team squandered several scoring opportunites that could have put them at level.

Somalia's path to the finals has been somewhat of a cinderalla story after a surprise victory of Kenya.

Both games were decided by first-half goals scored by Somalia.

Somalia will face off with Tanzania in the finals. Tanzania advanced by eliminating Kenya 2-1.

Uganda, Ethiopia, Sudan, Kenya, Tanzania, Somalia and hosts Burundi have been participants in the FIFA sponsored tournament.

The Tanzanians are through to the finals after eliminating Kenya 2-1 in the other semi final clash.
