Mogadishu (HOL) - A conference on security expected to commence today in Garowe between the federal security ministry and its regional counterparts.
A delegation led by Deputy Federal Minister of Security, Abdinasir Said Muse, arrived in Garowe on Tuesday to attend the event that will focus on strengthening security cooperation at the federal and regional levels.
The two sides will also discuss the status of the fight against Al-Shabaab and liberation of areas under the Al-Qaeda-linked group.
Similar meetings was previously held in other regional states capitals and Mogadishu respectively to assess security situation of the country and improve security cooperation between the government and the regional states.
Somalia is locked in a deadly battle with Islamist militant insurgents Al-Shabaab since ousting the latter from the nation's capital, Mogadishu in 2011. Although it has lost control of most towns and cities, it still dominates in many rural areas. Al-Shabaab, who views the Somali government as apostates, has vowed to fight the Somali National Army and her international backers until it can impose it's own interpretation of strict Sharia law in the country.
