Charges brought in death of man found in Rexdale apartment

Torontonian Abdirizak Yabarow, 36, was charged Friday with second-degree murder in the death of 42-year-old Abdinasir Hussein.

Police charged a Toronto man with second-degree murder Friday in the killing of a man found dead in a Rexdale apartment earlier this week.

The body of Abdinasir Hussein, 42, was discovered Wednesday inside 12 Arbordell Rd., a Toronto Community Housing Corporation building. Police were first called to the scene at 9:44 a.m. that day for reports of unknown trouble.

“It appears there was an altercation,” police wrote in a press release Friday.

Investigators didn’t release any further details about how Hussein was killed, but said an autopsy was conducted Thursday.

Torontonian Abdirizak Yabarow, 36, was arrested Friday. He faces one second-degree murder charge and one count of assault causing bodily harm.

Yabarow will appear in court at Old City Hall Saturday morning.

Investigators are looking to speak with anyone who may have noticed anything unusual in the area between Tuesday, Oct. 3 at 5 p.m. and Wednesday, Oct. 4 at 10 a.m. Anyone with information can contact police at 416-808-7400, or do so anonymously through Crime Stoppers.

Hussein is Toronto’s 46th homicide victim of 2017.
