Mogadishu (HOL) - The Somali Cabinet has appointed Mohamed Ali ‘Afgoye’ as the auditor general of Somalia. Afgoye will replace Nur Jimale Farah who’s body guards shot and killed Minister Abbas Siraji on two months ago.

The decision was announced by Finance Minister Abdirahman Duale Beyle.

31-year-old Abbas Abdullahi Siraji - the youngest minister in the Somali history - was shot dead at the front gates of Villa Somalia on May 4th by Somali government soldiers who were escorting former Auditor General, Nur Farah. The soldiers began firing at Mr. Siraji as his car approached the checkpoint leading to the compound. Afterward, Farah said it was “gunfire involving soldiers who had become suspicious of each other”.

The Prime Minister immediately sacked Mr. Farah, a move that was backed by the cabinet just hours after the slain minister's burial and three soldiers were arrested.

Farah protested his firing, saying that the cabinet did not have the authority to sack him without approval from Parliament.

In June, a military court in Mogadishu sentenced Ahmed Abdullahi Abdi (Aided), one of the members of Farah’s security detail to death over the killing Abbas Siraji.

On Monday, a military appeals court upheld June conviction. The soldier is expected to face a firing squad.
