URP’s National Organising Secretary George Ayugi said the Government should withdraw the soldiers from Somalia since the relationship between the two countries has been strained.
He said the removal of Somali ambassador to Kenya Mohamed Ali Nur from the country back to Mogadishu was a clear sign that the country no longer needed our help.
“There is no cordial relationship between Kenya and Somalia after they recalled their ambassador to Mogadishu, hence no reason why our soldiers should continue staying in their country in the name of creating peace,” he said.
Nur temporarily returned to Somalia after the arrest of Consular Ahmud Shire who was briefly detained in a Nairobi police station a week ago.
The arrest was as a result of the ongoing crackdown on illegal immigrants following a spate of terror attacks in Nairobi and Mombasa, with the latest incident occurring on Sunday on the Thika Superhighway.
His remarks come just a day after ODM, through its acting leader Prof Anyang’ Nyong’o, stated that the situation might get out of hand if Kenyan soldiers are not pulled out of Somalia.
