Nairobi Senator Gidion Mbuvi Sonko has sensationally alleged he has information about the Westgate Shopping Mall attackers.

Further, he said, he informed the National Intelligence Service about the impending attack but the agency did not act.

He, however, did not specify the person he reported to at NIS.

Addressing a sombre Senate yesterday, Mr Mbuvi (below) told the House he alerted the NIS two months ago after a tip-off.

He claimed two women came to his office and informed him of some foreigners who were planning to attack shopping malls and key buildings in Nairobi.

He said he was told the National Assembly, the KICC where the Senate sits, and Village Market in Gigiri were also targets.

“The women told me the terrorists were living with them in Parklands and Westlands,” Mr Mbuvi said.
“The women told me they were being mistreated and threatened with grenades and guns. They said the foreigners had been in Nairobi for three months,” he said.

He claimed he took the women to intelligence officials, but nothing was done.
The Senator spoke when the House adjourned to discuss the Westgate Shopping Mall terror attack that began on Saturday.

President Kenyatta yesterday said 67 people were killed in the attack. Al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility.
