Some Members of the Somali Parliament who were demanding the removal of Prime Minister Abdi Farah Shirdon from office have now decided to back down following a public outcry.

80 MPs accused the Premier of failure to lead the government after six months that he has been in power.

They filed a motion before parliament, demanding Shirdon to face vote of confidence.

Parliament has scheduled to debate the tabled motion on May 22, which will be tomorrow.

Former prime Minister Mohamed Abdi Yusuf, former Speaker of parliament Sheikh Aden Madobe and former Women’s affairs minister Khadijo Mohamed Diriye who are all current MPs and were backers of this motion have said they backed down after they faced public discontent.

“Parliament has the right to file a motion against the government, but that does not mean to dismantle the recovery process of the nation, we want to rebuild our country and that is why we backed down” Said former PM Mohamed Abdi Yusuf.
