An improvised explosive device was Sunday discovered in a bus plying the Dandora route.

Bomb experts managed to deactivate the deadly device connected to a mobile phone after the bus crew alerted security officers.

Area OCPD Samuel Anampiu said the bomb failed to go off as intended and it was a lucky escape for passengers who boarded the bus. A massive police operation has been launched in the area.

The police boss said the phone recorded 45 missed calls intended to set the bomb off saying it was a lucky escape for the passengers.

Meanwhile, anyone who will engage in any acts of lawlessness and disturbances will face the full force of the law.

National Police Service Commission Spokesman Masoud Mwinyi says security officers are on high alert after a group of youth in Kawangware and parts of Nyanza engaged in looting and burning of properties leading to the death of two people after the Supreme Court  on Saturday upheld the election of Uhuru Kenyatta as president elect.

Other areas that witnessed violence are Kawangware and Mathare slums.

A supermarket was looted by criminals in Huruma triggering the operations. Youth armed with crude weapons broke into the supermarket and made away with goods of unknown value.

Similar incidences were also reported in the sprawling mathare slums.

Mwinyi has cautioned Kenyans against making statements that will ignite fear among Kenyans. He has further challenged Kenyans to embark on nation building and maintain calmness.
