Kenya has strongly condemned Wednesday's terrorist attack on the UN compound for humanitarian and development activities in Mogadishu, Somalia.

In a statement from its Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday, Kenya said the blatant, unprovoked and cruel attack in which at least 15 people lost their lives ''is unacceptable and should be condemned by all peace loving Nations''.

''The Government is extremely saddened by the loss of life of a Kenyan United Nations staff member in the attack. We are already in touch with the United Nations Mission in Nairobi and Mogadishu to get further details on the tragic and sad event. Kenya wishes to take this opportunity to send condolences to the United Nations, families and countries of all those killed during this heinous attack,'' the statement said.

Kenya said the latest terror attack on people who are engaged in peace efforts and reconstruction of Somalia ''attests to the hatred and the ferocity with which the Al Shabaab and other terror gangs are opposed to peace and security in Somalia and the region''.

It commended the quick and strong response both by the Somalia government security forces and the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) to the attacks, and assured that the attack ''would not deter but rather strengthen our concerted efforts to combat terrorism in all its forms and to bring the perpetrators of such cruel acts to justice''.
