The Somali National Army, backed by the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), pushed al-Shabaab militants out of Dardan and Jirada Kullow in the Bay region in simultaneous dawn operations, AMISOM announced Saturday (February 23rd).
After the liberation of these two strategic towns, allied forces have
captured six key positions from al-Shabaab in less than 10 days.
Allied forces will next target other towns along the Afgoye-Baidoa
corridor, as al-Shabaab insurgents have been fleeing without resistance.
"AMISOM will continue to confront the enemies of peace and to support
the people of Somalia as they strive to rebuild their nation," said
Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union
Commission for Somalia Mahamet Saleh Annadif.
