European Union Ambassador to Somalia Michele Cervone d'Urso presented his credentials to President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Saturday (October 20th), Somalia's Shabelle Media Network reported.
D'Urso is the European Union's first official envoy to Somalia since the collapse of the country's federal government in 1991. His appointment "will open a new chapter in the relations between Somalia and the EU, aiming at a true and balanced partnership", according to an EU press release.
After appearing before Mohamud, d'Urso said the European Union is committed to helping restore Somalia to being a prosperous and peaceful nation.
