Canon Marketing (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd printed the Photography Collection by Somali Refugees for a fundraising auction organised recently by the Fugee School at Bistro 42, Bangsar Village II.

This was done as part of Canon’s ongoing corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme.

The collection was shot by the school children who spent a day taking photographs with renowned photographers Suchen SK and Gregers Reimann.

The charity event was highlighted by performances from the KLPAC (Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre) trained refugee children, songstress Zamaera and a mini video presentation by journalist Zan Azlee.

“Align with our corporate philosophy Kyosei which focuses on living and working together for the common good, we believe education is essential to children’s physical, emotional, social and intellectual growth besides unlocking the gate to a bright and successful future. Therefore we are happy to be able to do our bit in helping the children to access quality education” said Canon Marketing (Malaysia) consumer system products division director Donny Ling.

Fugee School was co-founded in 2009 by Miss Universe Malaysia 2011 Deborah Henry and Shikeen Halibullah who transformed a local initiative to one which provides free education to over 100 refugee children.

Other the items auctioned during the fundraising event include a 2-day 1-night package at the Sri Panwa Phuket sponsored by Luxe Nomad, gifts by Red Ribbon Days, specially designed bangles by Suhara Jewel Art, unique Somali-themed bags by KLutched as well as acrylic art pieces and water colour paintings crafted by the Fugee School children with help from Marina Ramlan and Hannah Lo.

All proceeds from the charity event will be channelled to Fugee School to fund its expenses.
