Mogadishu (HOL) - The Banadir regional administration has publicly incinerated drugs commonly misused by Mogadishu's youth.

These drugs, sourced from Mogadishu's medical centers and pharmacies implicated in illegal distribution, have contributed to rising addiction rates among young people.

Banadir's Governor, Yusuf Hussein Jim'ale Maddale, has issued a stern warning to the young entrepreneurs trafficking in these narcotics, including pills and syrups, stating that offenders will face prosecution.

The governor also alerted businesses against importing products detrimental to youth, pointing out the recent interception of candies mimicking cigarettes, which he believes could facilitate smoking habits among children.

He announced that the government would revoke the licenses of those importing such hazardous goods.

In mid-March, Port authorities in Mogadishu seized 249 cartons of illegal snus tobacco, known locally as Tabuuga. Somali security agency reported that the product is popular among Somali youth.
